Gunnison Drive - August 2008
This was a Tom Ingram Saturday drive - this one was to Gunnison, Colorado for a car show.

You can drive to Gunnison by going to Montrose and then east on US Highway 50.  But, the northern route on Colorado 92 through Hotchkiss and Crawford is 13 miles longer and more scenic.  There is a variety of highway - straightaways,  hills and lots of curves on the last 25 miles approaching the Black Canyon of the Gunnison from the North.

For a faster return trip to Grand Junction from Gunnison stay on Highway 50 west to Montrose, then head north.  Stop at the Morrow Point Dam near Cimarron if you have time.

Route: South on Highway 50 to Delta.  East on Highway 92 through Hotchkiss and Crawford to US Highway 50.  East on Highway 50 to Gunnison.

Distance:  About 136 miles from the Orchard Mesa City Market to Gunnison.

Driving time:  I didn't log the actual time for this trip but Google Maps says it's around 3:44 via this route.  You can bet your Michelins it didn't take us anywhere near that long.
