Lizard Head Pass / Rico, Colorado August 22, 2009
Forecast highs of 100 degrees in Grand Junction made the drive to Rico very appealing.
Eight cars (Porsche, Mercedes, Fiat, Firebird, and four Corvettes) met in Montrose for the Lizard Head Pass / Rico, Colorado drive - not a bad turn out considering the Gunnison Car Show was the same day and several regulars decided on the show instead of the drive.
Clusters of the usual Saturday summer traffic on sections of the highway occasionally limited "driving" opportunities. But, from Lizard
Head Pass to Rico traffic was light and a lone Porsche came up from behind and enjoyed tagging along.
Stops included breakfast at the Blue Jay Cafe in Placerville, and Lizard Head Pass for scenery and photos. From there the Corvettes made a quick trip to Rico while the remaining four drivers headed back. The stop in Rico was quick since the early afternoon summer showers started just as the Vettes entered Rico.
